FRESH FROM THE MARKET!
In the early morning we drive to the Zadar market to get the best products of the day. The market itself is an event on its own and worth the trip. We will walk the market isles and pick out what looks, feels and smells the best, everything fresh from the producers: vegetables, herbs, nuts, fish, cheese and meat. As the offer of products changes from season to season and from day to day, you can count on me that with the chosen products we are going to cook tasteful recipes in my kitchen. Salads with wild lettuce and fruits, filled bell peppers, zucchini or fig or vineleaves, fish from the grill, tasty Croatian tapas, best burgers, chicken rolls... Be sure it will be tasty!

LET'S DO THE PEKA!
Peka cooking 'under the bell' or 'ispod peke' is a traditional Dalmatian way of cooking using an open fire with a big cast iron 'bell' to make it like an oven. The fun part is that you have to make a real big fire first. In the meantime you prepare the dish with layers of food: potatoes, vegetables, herbs and meat or fish. When the fire is ready, red hot and glowing the real work has to be done, to place the prepared dish, like above, exactly on the spot where the fire was, top the dish with the bell and shovel the fire on top of the bell. The heat gets all around the covered dish and the food will cook inside it... Let's enjoy it with a drink of your choice!

HOME MADE SLAVONIAN GOODIES
When my loving neighbor Slavica was still a young woman, she had a dream to open in her hometown Vinkovci an Austrian style 'Konditorei'. As she came to stand on her own with two kids, she never had this dream come true. But her passion didn’t leave her as, while having a full time job to raise her children, she found time in the evenings and weekends to bake for others. Now she is retired and in the summer she lives opposite from me in Ivinj. She surprises me every week with something tasteful from her small kitchen, sweet or hearty. I know she will be honored to tell you all her baking secrets. My Croatian is not that good, but with recipes we'll manage to understand each other. So if you want to make such wonderful things to bake, just let me know!

FRUITS TO PRESERVE
Cherries, peaches, plums, walnuts, pome granate, mandarins and of course figs, I have them all in my garden and I love to cook them in some memorable preserves that help me through the winter. What about a fig marmalade with lavender, a smooth peach spread with ginger, a tasty walnutcream to use in the traditional Croatian ‘palačinke’, ... Each season has his own fruits and with each of them you can make not only great dishes but also lovely preserves. So come and join me pick the fruits... (or we buy them on the market in Vodice) and there will be enough even to take some home!
