Hi! I am Wilma van Hoeven.
I am a Dutch culinary editor and I fell in love with Croatia: the country, the people, the food... I want to share with you all my love and experience, so that together we can make your next holiday something special to look forward to. I want to be your guide, if you let me to. Choose on this website the elements you like to do when you come to Croatia and together we will make your time in Croatia something to remember!
As a culinary expert I'll change recipes always a little bit 'my way' - original, but with a twist. If you like Mediterranean cooking my recipes could end up in your own kitchen as favs of the family! So what would you like to cook and eat when you stay here? Maybe a one day course to make 'ispod peke', a typical Croatian meal prepared in my outdoor wood oven? Or join me very early in the morning to the Zadar food market to choose the best fresh produce and make some nice Mediterranean dishes later at home? You could get inspired by the fruits from my garden and make them into wonderful preserves to take home. If you like sweet things: together with my neighbor Slavica, an expert for baking Croatian cakes and cookies, I will teach you special delicacies. Or what about a walk through the fields to find wild asparagus to eat for dinner or the best fresh herbs for amazingly simple but good dishes. Please feel welcome at my table...
If you are looking for adventure, Croatia has a lot to offer. The seawater here is crystal clear and clean. You can see it with your own eyes while snorkeling or you can take a diving course and maybe meet the dolphin families around Murter. Or you could come to fish with Đuro and try to catch your own fish for the grill, it even could be a real tuna! You could also help local farmers to pick olives and watch the olive oil to flow in your own bottle. Or make it even more active and go your own way by bike or feet along the coast, following an old donkey trail or watch the herons in nature park lake Vrana. You could feed the donkey's from Tribunj, ride on horseback through the fields or sail away with Zlatko on his sailingboat and find your own little bay....
As Croatia has only four million people, more than thousand islands and some impressive mountains on the borders, nature in Croatia is overwhelming and you can enjoy it just as easy as you like. Take a daytrip to the Krka waterfalls and feel the power of the water. Visit the fairy tale of the 'eye of Cetina river' on the border with Bosnia. Or go on board a motor vessel and be-wonder yourself in the beauty of the islands. Lay yourself at rest on one of the lovely beaches with romantic beach bars and take a dive in the refreshing clear water. You could have a massage with natural oils or grease your body with the healthy mud from the sea, drink fresh picked herbal tea while letting the mud dry and feel yourself renewed! As Croatia has a long tradition with people coming and going you can taste some Roman influence in Split, find yourself among the Venetians in Zadar or take a look in a Turkish Han. History is everywhere here....
